Welcome to Gump’s Black Bear Cabin Rental. We are Tim and Melissa Gump owners of Gump’s Black Bear Cabin Rental and co-owners of Grafton hometown pizza. We are life time residents of the Grafton area. Tim is the meat manager of his family’s Shop n Save Express store. Melissa is a 17 year employee of the Grafton post office as a City letter carrier. They are proud parents of two adult sons. We built this cabin ourselves in hopes to add another place for families to stay at while enjoying the Tygart Lake State Park and Grafton area. We hope you give our cabin a try and enjoy your stay.
The cabin is located in a secure, secluded location 5 miles from Tygart Lake and boasts a fully equipped kitchen with dishwasher, microwave and coffee pot; and a full bathroom and washer and dryer.
The cabin sleeps ten comfortably and features two full beds in the loft bedroom, a queen size bed in the ground level bedroom and one full size bed in the second ground level bedroom. The love seat sleeper sofa rolls out into a full size bed.
There is a vented gas log fire place for those chilly autumn evenings; and an window unit air conditioner and ceiling fans to keep you comfortable during the summer months.
There is a DVD player and smart TV available, but we recommend an evening on the covered front porch enjoying the view or reading a book and relaxing in a rocking chair; or using the table and chairs for a late evening meal while enjoying a beautiful sunset or playing a game of cards.
There is also an outside fire pit, charcoal grill and picnic table – perfect for an evening of ghost stories, smores and roasting marshmellows.
Enjoy morning coffee on the deck as the birds awaken, catch a secret glimpse of a deer having her breakfast in the woods, take an afternoon stroll beside the babbling Robinson river, Or lay on the dock on a clear night and count shooting stars…heaven on earth!
Our Location is perfect for a quick get-away from the city, Just 1.5 hours from Washington D.C., 40 minutes north of Charlottesville, VA. Drive a short distance, but feel like you are in another world!

Forget the craziness of daily life. Unplug to reconnect to what matters most in life. Listen to the thunderous roar of thousands of gallons of water spilling over a cliff and crashing hundreds of feet below on ancient rocks. Feel the cool, damp air of the morning dew resting on a fern. Watch the sun rise over the mountain tops and hear the coyotes locating through the forest.
The serenity of nature at Crabtree Falls renews your spirit and lifts your soul. This waterfall is The Old Dominion’s best-kept secret, a picturesque piece of nature that reminds us of the beauty this world has to offer. Located midway between Charlottesville and Lynchburg, Virginia, just six miles off the scenic Blue Ridge Parkway, Crabtree Falls is the largest vertical drop waterfall east of the Mississippi River: over 1500 feet!
With our cabins being just ½ mile from the falls, our guests enjoy the sounds of Crabtree Falls and the Tye River from their porch and by campfires under the night stars. In a time where people so often spend most of their time in front of a screen, this truly is the best place for guests to press pause on screen time and to get back to experiencing what is best in life.
