North Mountain Vacation Rentals is located in the middle of the Monongahela National Forest 7 1/2 miles in on a paved road off of Route 28 near Cabins, WV. This area is extremely secluded with abundant wildlife just 4 miles from the Historic Smokehole Recreation Area.
When you drive into the canyon, you will notice the angle of the jagged rock formations twisted almost into horseshoe shapes from the evolution process from millions of years ago. Bald eagles soar through the air effortlessly as they hunt for game and fish in the river below. Deer are everywhere for your enjoyment. If you are lucky, you may spot an otter or a bear. They too are a part of this beautiful terrain. Located near by is the Seneca Rocks Recreation area with its trail to the top of Seneca Rocks, or if you like, ride to the top on horseback. Take some time and learn to mountain climb at the climbing school near Harper’s old country store. Also stop by and visit the Caverns at Seneca and Smokehole.
Behind our cabins you have access to the North Fork of the South Branch of the Potomac River, an area that offers some of the best fishing and canoeing found anywhere. The nearby woodlands are abundant with small game, deer and bear.
Appalachian Cabins combine the rustic charm of yesteryear with the comfort of modern day conveniences. The cabins were constructed in the same manner as the early settlers of this area used to build their homes more than a century ago. All the timber, which came from Spruce Mountain, was milled in nearby Hardy County, and then hand hewn and assembled on-site.
The carved porch posts and gingerbread trim were rescued from a century-old Hardy County mansion that was falling into ruin. Many of the floors in the cabins came from an old log house in Hardy County. The artistry of the native stone chimneys is impressive. All the materials in our cabins utilize local natural hardwoods.
Each cabin has a wood burning fireplace. Firewood is available on-site free of charge. However, if you plan to use your fireplace you might consider bringing a starter log.
Seneca Rocks is just three miles away, providing challenging climbs for beginner to expert. For the history buff the Treasure Mountain Festival that takes place in Franklin the third weekend of September has everything from Civil War battle reenactments to tours of local historic buildings, quilt displays, local artisans’ crafts and traditional country food. Canaan Valley, Blackwater Falls and Dolly Sods are within an hour’s scenic drive from the Cabins.
There is no cell phone service in our area and there are no phones in the cabins. Limited cell phone service is available five miles south-east of us, for AT&T subscribers only. Free WiFi is provided.

They have full kitchens with a stove and refrigerator. There is a large parking area to accommodate trucks with large trailers. They are located in the Matoaka, West Virginia area. There is a community connector in Matoaka that takes you to the Hatfield and McCoy trails. You can also easily access outlaw trails from our location. There are local amenities such as car wash and a gas station that can be accessed from your ATV. We are also about a 20 minute vehicle drive from Princeton, West Virginia, where you can find plenty places to eat or shop. Our cabins are reasonably priced at $65.00 a night for the two cabins with wheelchair accommodations and 80.00 a night each for the cabins in the duplex.
The ride: There are paved roads that you will have to hit to access some of the trails, but most still come with great views! The town of Matoaka is an ATV friendly town so there is no issues with hitting the main road to access the outlaw trails or the Hatfield and McCoy community connector. Welcome to Gump’s Black Bear Cabin Rental. We are Tim and Melissa Gump owners of Gump’s Black Bear Cabin Rental and co-owners of Grafton hometown pizza. We are life time residents of the Grafton area. Tim is the meat manager of his family’s Shop n Save Express store. Melissa is a 17 year employee of the Grafton post office as a City letter carrier. They are proud parents of two adult sons. We built this cabin ourselves in hopes to add another place for families to stay at while enjoying the Tygart Lake State Park and Grafton area. We hope you give our cabin a try and enjoy your stay.
The cabin is located in a secure, secluded location 5 miles from Tygart Lake and boasts a fully equipped kitchen with dishwasher, microwave and coffee pot; and a full bathroom and washer and dryer.
The cabin sleeps ten comfortably and features two full beds in the loft bedroom, a queen size bed in the ground level bedroom and one full size bed in the second ground level bedroom. The love seat sleeper sofa rolls out into a full size bed.
There is a vented gas log fire place for those chilly autumn evenings; and an window unit air conditioner and ceiling fans to keep you comfortable during the summer months.
There is a DVD player and smart TV available, but we recommend an evening on the covered front porch enjoying the view or reading a book and relaxing in a rocking chair; or using the table and chairs for a late evening meal while enjoying a beautiful sunset or playing a game of cards.
There is also an outside fire pit, charcoal grill and picnic table – perfect for an evening of ghost stories, smores and roasting marshmellows.

The Blue Span Shenandoah Cabin is 9 miles northwest of Luray, Virginia overlooking the Shenandoah River with fantastic views of the Blue Ridge. A quiet place for either relaxing or that special romantic weekend get-a-way.
The weekend rate for the cabin is $170 a night (Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Holidays nights), the weekday rate is $140 a night (Monday through Thursday). There is a minimum stay of 2 nights except on major holiday weekends where there is a 3 night minimum. Inquire about special rates for extended stays. Lodging taxes (10.3%)not included.
All pots, pans, utensils, and dinnerware are provided along with basic condiments required for a relaxing stay. Cabin has DirecTV with Washington DC TV access.
All linens are provided. Additonal fee for linens for the sleep sofa.

Each cabin is equipped with an open deck with rocking chair seating and a secluded deluxe exterior Hot Tub. Across from the retreat is a public Olympic size swimming pool and Hawskbill Recreational Park. All cabins provide a view of the Shenandoah National Park mountains, each made to bring the views and serenity of the Shenandoah Valley to your family.
We currently have 4 cabins available! Two sleep 8 (3 queen beds and a couch that makes a bed), are wheelchair accessible, have a kitchen area with full size refrigerators. Two are part of a duplex, they are adjoining cabins through a communicating door. These two cabins have 2 queen bunks and two half bunks and a couch that makes a bed for a total of 8 persons. They have full kitchens with a stove and refrigerator. There is a large parking area to accommodate trucks with large trailers. They are located in the Matoaka, West Virginia area. There is a community connector in Matoaka that takes you to the Hatfield and McCoy trails. You can also easily access outlaw trails from our location. There are local amenities such as car wash and a gas station that can be accessed from your ATV. We are also about a 20 minute vehicle drive from Princeton, West Virginia, where you can find plenty places to eat or shop. Our cabins are reasonably priced at $65.00 a night for the two cabins with wheelchair accommodations and 80.00 a night each for the cabins in the duplex.
The ride: There are paved roads that you will have to hit to access some of the trails, but most still come with great views! The town of Matoaka is an ATV friendly town so there is no issues with hitting the main road to access the outlaw trails or the Hatfield and McCoy community connector. Autumn View Log chalet is one of our most private new log cabins. Its setting is ideal. No major roads close by, which means no traffic noise, listen to the wind blow gently thru the trees. The cabin is bordered by over 500 acres of woodland of which is then border by the Shenandoah National Park. In fact a short hike from the cabin you will find a nice set of waterfalls. Sit on the covered porch and enjoy the great views. Watch the sun set over the distance mountains. You have true peace and quiet here. Remember when you were a child and use to rock on the porch of your grandmothers house and listen to the rain coming down on her metal roof? We put a nice green metal roof on the cabin just for that reason. We put a lot of windows in the cabin, so there is loads of natural light that comes in, while inside, you get the feeling your are one with the outdoors.
On the deck, relax in the top of the line hot tub. It has 78 jets, its own waterfall, LED lights, and even a built-in radio, CD player with pop-up speakers. It is truly an awesome experience. Time to cook? Grill out on the stainless steel grill while taking in the scenery around you, what a nice way to vacation.
Inside the Autumn View Log chalet offers 2 bedrooms with queen size pillow top beds and 2 baths. A 2 person Jacuzzi is nooked in a corner of the master bedroom for those long awaited romantic evenings.
The kitchen offers stainless steel appliances with dishwasher, along with all cookware, dishware, utensils and pots and pans. It has nice hickory cabinets with plenty of storage, and beautiful granite counter tops. A top of the line cabin. The great room has exposed post and beams, its ceiling soars to 24 feet. The rock fireplace is the main focal point, it reaches to over 10 feet. Snuggle up to it on those cool days, enjoy our comfortable sofas along with each other. The great room also has a big screen LCD TV with a DVD player, and a satellite dish for clear reception.
Rest assure the cabins are clean. We clean them ourselves. We are small owners of vacation cabins and we take pride in keeping them in shape.
